5 Steps to Planning a Summer Picnic

How to Plan a Summer Picnic in 5 Easy Steps

Have you ever tried planning a picnic before? It may not seem like a hard task, but without a little planning you might easily forget something important… Which is why I’m here sharing this post with you today! I’ve been wanting to plan a fun picnic for such a long time, so finally a few weeks ago I decided to spend the day with some friends enjoying a meal and time outside.

Today I’m sharing 5 easy steps to planning your own picnic this summer:

1) Find a Good Location

During summer you can really go outside anywhere to enjoy the warm weather, but it’s always nice to choose a quiet spot with a view. Parks and beaches are usually great picnic locations and sometimes will even have tables you can easily set up at. I chose to go to one of my favorite parks, Huntington Central Park, because of the wide open space and green scenery. Even though Huntington is pretty urbanized, this a great spot to be in touch with nature. Here’s some other great suggestions for picnic locations in the OC area:

Corona Del Mar

– San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary

– Crescent Bay Point Park

– Top of the World

Mile Square Park

2) Get the Essentials

First things first, you need to get a picnic blanket and basket. I already had one at home, but if you don’t there are plenty of places that sell pre-packed baskets with plates, utensils, and cups. You probably own tons of blankets but Target has the cutest selection of colorful and festive ones (I couldn’t resist this striped one for only $20!)

3) Hit the $1 Section

Has anyone ever gone to Target for one thing and walked out with twenty? Yeah, the dollar section will do that to you! Right now it’s stocked with tons of colorful items perfect for a picnic – I picked up tribal plates, wood utensils, paper straws and pillows, then found the perfect cups to match. Kimberly hit the Dollar Tree to pick up some fake flowers to add some extra color to our picnic.

4) Pack Food + Drinks

What’s a picnic without good food and drinks? Easy finger foods are usually the way to go – we packed sandwiches, fruit, cheese & crackers, and various flavors of Suja juice.

5) Bring a Friend!

Picnics are more fun when you have someone to enjoy it with. I brought along Kimberly and our new friend Tricia to spend the afternoon with. We even made a new friend while enjoying our food – his name is Toby!

Steps 1-5 sound easy enough, right? I also made a checklist for you to print out at home to make sure you don’t forget anything! Also, don’t forget to check out BNR to see Kimberly’s picnic planning tips!

One last thing to share with you… Tricia and Kim are both experienced with making videos and have helped inspire me to try it out myself! This was my basically my first real time editing a video, so please feel free to give me any feedback or let me know if you’d like to see more :)

Disclaimer: I was gifted with this juice cleanse from Suja, but this is not a sponsored post and as always all opinions are my own. This post is also not sponsored by Target (though I wish it was! #targetsponsorme); I purchased all items on my own.
