Best Dog Friendly Locations in the OC

Huntington Beach Dog Park

Orange County is one of the best places to live, especially if you have a dog! There are so many opportunities to take your pup with you while exploring, eating, and shopping. Huntington Beach is my hometown, but I never realized how many dog friendly places there are that are so close to home!

If you have been following along with my blog for a while, you’re probably familiar with my little chiweenie mix Phoenix who is my best friend and cuddle buddy. We’ve been out and about Central Park and the dog beach over the last two weeks and I’m so glad I got to bring him along with me! We can’t wait to keep exploring together, in the OC and beyond! To make things easier, I’ve compiled a list of the best dog-friendly locations to take your pooch in Orange County.

Where to Go

1) Dog Park

Location: East side of Edwards Street between Ellis and Talbert, Huntington Beach 92647

Best for: Socializing with other dogs, playing fetch, short walks

I love taking Phoenix here because it’s one of the only enclosed areas where I can unleash him and he run free (although he usually ends up being lazy and sitting on my lap instead.) It’s a great way to meet other dogs and owners in the area too!

Huntington Beach Central Park

2) Central Park / Huntington Library

Location: 7111 Talbert Ave Huntington Beach 92648

Best for: Long walks or runs, quiet time

The park is one of my favorite places to go for walks because it takes you straight out of the city right into the calmness and serenity of nature. It’s full of trees, wildlife, and different paths to explore.

3) Dog Beach

Location: Between downtown Huntington and Sunset Beach

Best for: Fetch or frisbee, playing in the water, long walks

I always keep Phoenix leashed (we’re working on taking him to puppy training classes) but this is OC’s only off-leash dog beach, so if you have a well behaved pup you better take advantage of it! There is metered parking ($1.50/hr) between 21st and Seapoint St.

4) Hiking

Location: Various – see full list here

Best for: More intense workouts

My favorite trail I’ve hiked so far is Peter’s Canyon Trail in Orange. I’m excited to explore some more with Phoenix and his bff Finn!

Where to Eat

Park Bench Cafe Central Park Huntington Beach

1) Park Bench Cafe

Location: 17732 Goldenwest St, Huntington Beach 92647

What to Order: Bow Wow Wow, Peanut Butter Puppy

Park Bench has a doggy menu including chicken, hot dog bites, cookies, and more. The Bow Wow Wow is a good portion size of boneless chicken filet and can feed up to two small dogs (I’ve shared it between Phoenix and Finn multiple times). If your dog loves peanut butter, then they’ll love the cookie! Check out the full menu here.

Kathy Mae's Central Park Huntington Beach

2) Kathy May’s

Location: 6622 Lakeview Dr, Huntington Beach 92648

What to Order: Anything on the menu, but leave leftovers for your pup!

There’s outside seating with a beautiful pondside view. No menu for the pups but you can still enjoy sitting with them through lunch and let them nibble on any leftovers.

3) Lazy Dog Cafe

Location: 16310 Beach Blvd, Westminster 92683

What to Order: Grilled chicken breast and brown rice

Their outside patio area is specifically designated for dogs, in addition to a full dog menu. Bone appetit!

4) Starbucks

Location: Everywhere (there’s seriously one on like every corner of every city!)

What to Order: Puppuccino

Who knew there was a frappuccino for dogs? Straight off the secret menu, the puppuccino is a small cup of whipped cream that is a sweet treat for your pup. So next time you’re craving a PSL, make sure you bring your little one along with you too!

5) Sprinkles Cupcake

Location: 944 Avocado Ave, Newport Beach 92660

What to Order: Doggie cupcake

Sprinkles sells sugar free pupcakes topped with a yogurt frosting for only $2.50 each. Plus their ice cream shop is literally right next door, so everyone wins!

Where to Shop

1) Fashion Island

Location: 401 Newport Center Dr, Newport Beach 92660

Where to Visit: Muttropolis

Fashion Island is the best dog friendly shopping center in OC. Dogs are allowed inside all of the stores and some even have doggy bowls filled with water and treats waiting for them.

2) Bella Terra

Location: 7777 Edinger Avenue, Huntington Beach 92647

Where to Visit: The Ampitheater

Bella Terra has lots of outside seating and open area to walk around. They have monthly scheduled live music and special events you can check out too!
