Can you believe we’re already halfway through September? I’m still a little sad that this incredible summer of exploring in Phoenix, the Bahamas, Palm Springs, San Diego, as well as around the OC, is really coming to an end. The main problem is that it’s just finally starting to feel like summer in Orange County, with temps in the past few weeks reaching 90+ degrees!
In Southern California we don’t experience the typical autumn with leaves changing or cool rainy days, but instead a relatively long and warm September sometimes even into October/November. Even though our stores are filling up with cozy sweaters and boots, most of us are still at to the beach- who can complain about that? Even with the warmer weather, there are some great ways to get in the fall spirit without sweating to death. Over these next few weeks, I’m doing a series on my favorite ways to transition into fall since our weather isn’t on the same page yet!
When I think of fall and back to school, I automatically think about new jeans. A good pair of denim can take you from class, to work, to out on the town with friends. I usually prefer to wear a medium/dark wash so that I don’t have to worry as much about getting them dirty (although I do still occasionally and cautiously wear white + light wash denim.) With my petite frame, I have a hard time finding flattering fits but typically my best options are cropped skinnies, rolled boyfriends, or petite jeggings (my personal favorite.) Some places I’ve personally had some great luck with in the past include: Aeropostale, Old Navy Petites, and American Eagle. PS- some other good petite options: Zara, ASOS, Topshop, J. Crew, and GAP.
Unfortunately many American Eagles have gone out of business around Orange County, but there is a nearby location at the Block Outlets where I found these jeans – I can already tell they’re going to be on repeat this season! They came in a short size but they’re still about 2 inches too long on me. I’ve become a pro at rolling up & tucking under which I did for this shoot, but I do plan on getting them hemmed at some point so they will hit at ankle length naturally. Other than the slightly long length, these jeggings fit so comfortably! I love the fact that they’re high waisted (great for crop tops and extra tummy coverage) and have just the right amount of rips.
I paired my new fave jeans with this gorgeous raspberry colored tank from Old Navy, nude sandals, a leopard clutch, and minimal layered gold jewelry. This shade of raspberry is such a great fall color, especially when paired with neutrals or black! The color combo of the raspberry mixed with an animal print (which is totally on trend right now from leopard to snake skin – but faux only, please!) is perfect for fall transitioning.
Transitioning Tip: once the weather starts cooling down, add a leather jacket or comfy cardi and swap out the sandals for a pair of booties – now you’re ready for fall!
