These past couple of days I took a mini family vacation and road tripped it to Las Vegas. Lately I’ve been so busy working, blogging on here and TNT Tauna, and figuring out on all the details for the Mint Salon vintage photo shoot that it was nice to get away for a few days and spend some quality time with my aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Now in general, most girls have a huge problem when it comes to travel: over-packing (What if I need those extra pair of heels? And those jeans if it gets cold! You can’t forget about accessories either!) I admit, I have always had an issue keeping my suitcase contents to a minimum, but for a short three day trip it was important for me to make sure I packed light.
BACK TO BASICS
Start off with the things you know you will need most- lingerie, toiletries, etc. (I learned this the hard way a few years ago after forgetting to pack underwear on my week long trip to the Bahamas- never again!) After that, I begin packing basic tops and bottoms that I can easily mix + match. For this trip I packed 1 skirt, 2 tops, 1 dress, 2 pairs of shorts, 2 bathing suits, 2 pairs of sandals.
Again, it’s a good idea to keep your makeup bag light and easy when going away for a few days. My everyday makeup routine is pretty simple anyways- I’m a tinted moisturizer, powder foundation, chapstick, and swipe of mascara kind of girl. If you love wearing a full face of makeup usually, try to leave the heavy eye shadows, eyeliners, bronzers, and lipstick at home unless you plan on going out a lot at night.
BAG IT UP!
Ziploc bags can hold toiletries that could easily spill inside your suitcase, no matter if you’re traveling by air or car. Bring extra bags in case they get wet, and bigger plastic bags for dirty clothes and bathing suits.
TECH IT EASY
Nowadays it’s hard to spend five minutes of our day technology-free… but while on vacation, try to limit your social media to a minimum and focus on spending time relaxing with your loved ones. I brought my phone and Nikon camera to take a few pictures, along with my laptop to upload photos and work on some blog posts while all the adults went out gambling at night. Also, books and magazines are a great substitute to bring to the pool!
