A few weeks ago, my good blogger friends Lena and Melanie came with me to our very first Instameet in Newport Beach. Before Lena had told me about them, I had never heard of an “instameet” before, but it’s basically an event where Instagrammers who are passionate about photography meet up to create some amazing photos together.
This Newport Beach Instameet was hosted by:
There were over 90 people that showed up, which was definitely a little overwhelming! I had been following Katie from allGLAMMEDup on Instagram for a while, so when she reached out to me beforehand offering to meet up with me to take photos I was very excited. She has developed a passion for photography through her blog and I love her aesthetic so I couldn’t wait to shoot together.
The meeting spot was at the Newport Beach Pier by Newport Coffee Company. There was a huge crowd of people waiting with nametags and we jumped right in to the craziness. The amount of photographer to model ratio was way bigger, so luckily I had a chance to shoot with a few other photographers including Mimi from @dynamimi and @hillaryshreve.
At first we went off with Katie to shoot some outfit photos (remember last week’s Mas Amor tee? & keep an eye out for the others next week!) but afterwards, we all met back up by the Pier for those iconic sunset shots. How gorgeous is California, guys?! These photos perfectly captured one of the reasons I absolutely love living here!
I learned a lot from my first Instameet, but my big takeaway from the experience is: don’t be afraid to meet new people!
I’m usually very shy when it comes to meeting new people, but in this industry I’ve learned I have to put myself out there to make meaningful connections with people. With so many people there and it being my first time at one, I was a little nervous and not sure who exactly to talk to. Luckily I was able to get out of my shell and make a great connection with Katie and a few other photographers there. Next time, I will definitely make an effort to connect with more people and get everyone’s contact info – following up and keeping the connection is the most important part!

Have you ever been to an Instameet before? If so, I’d love to hear about your experience. And if you’re in the So Cal area, I’d love to see you at the next one!
