If you’re a Southern Californian like me, planning a trip to New York in the winter can be a little bit intimidating. I’m used to 75 degree beach weather, but today I am taking off to NYC for a fun weekend trip before heading back to school. When packing for New York, it’s important to think about what season you’re in and make sure to check the weather to make sure you pack accordingly.
3 pairs of pants
1 pair of leggings
2 pairs tights / leggings
1 pair gloves
bras + underwear
2 pairs socks
Tip: Try to pack things that are all in a similar color scheme so you can easily mix and match pieces. Also, rolling your clothes saves extra space in your suitcase for souvenirs and extra clothes you may purchase on your trip!
1 pair of boots
1 pair of flats
1 pair of sneakers
Tip: Make sure to bring at least one pair of comfy shoes that you won’t mind walking long distances in.
Tip: Most hotels will provide shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and hair dryers. Take advantage of this and leave your big bottles and heavy heat products at home!
Tip: If you don’t want to carry around a large camera, opt for a disposable or Polaroid instead.
- Layer, layer, layer! This allows you to make quick adjustments depending on the weather and activity.
- Don’t bring a big umbrella – you can usually find them on the street for $5-$10.
- Free wifi is found in most cafes, libraries, subway stations, in addition to a few restaurants and hotels.
- Try not to overpack (this one always the hardest for me!) You can always purchase anything else you need during your trip.
Do you have any other packing suggestions or travel tips? I’d love to hear your ideas!
