Transitioning to Spring with the Basics

A few weeks ago, I got the opportunity to finally meet up with my blogger friend Vincent from Cytherial in real life and shoot with his photographer Makito Umekita. We met up at City Hall in Pasadena to take a few outfit shots, then went downtown to explore the food options. I’m not familiar with Pasadena, but luckily Vincent knew all the best places to go – the first stop was Abricott for a light lunch, then we headed down the street to the cutest little ice cream float parlor called Float. I had a great time shooting with Vincent and Makito, but it was definitely out of my comfort zone when he wanted to try some more serious portrait shots (I actually hate close ups and trying to maintain a serious expression is so hard for me!) Although I felt a little uncomfortable at first, the final shots turned out pretty cool and it was a really great learning experience. I can’t wait to shoot with them again soon!

Now, on to outfit details. I wasn’t sure exactly what to wear, especially since the weather in So Cal has been extremely temperamental lately. A few weeks ago the El Niño rains were in full force, last week the Santa Anas were blowing like crazy, and this week it’s been in the 80’s. So clearly it’s a little difficult to figure out what to wear! My favorite way to transition into spring is with the basics: a good pair of dark wash destroyed denim, a flirty off the shoulder top, classic black lace up flats, and playing with bold colors and patterns in my accessories. Although leopard has basically become a neutral in my book, I still think it adds an element of fun into any spring outfit.

I’ve been pretty much living in these jeans from American Eagle. They have the perfect amount of distress and I finally got them hemmed so they hit me right at the ankle. If you don’t already have a pair of dark denim jeans, you should definitely look into American Eagle – this pair is on sale for only $30 right now! The rest of my outfit are pieces that I’ve had for a while so most are sold out, but they are staple pieces you most likely already have in your closet – and if not, as always I’ve linked similar ones for you below.
