What’s in My Makeup Bag: Birchbox Edition

Have you heard of Birchbox? Similar to Rocksbox, Birchbox is a box delivered monthly to your mailbox, but instead of being filled with designer jewelry, it contains makeup samples! I was lucky enough to have an opportunity to test out some of their products after winning a giveaway from Lush to Blush on Instagram. Usually I don’t post much about makeup (since I’m not very good at doing my own) but it is definitely an important factor to complete your look. My everyday routine is normally pretty simple with just foundation and mascara, but I thought I’d share with you what I thought of these products in case you were looking into any of them for yourself.

Let’s take a look at what’s inside my pretty little makeup pouch from Blessings by Fad

Here are the products I received:

Cargo Waterproof Blush in Bali | Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Shock Me Pink | Cynthia Rowley Liquid Liner | LAQA & Co. Sheer Lip Lube Pencil in Honeypot | Living proof. Perfect Hair Day Night Cap

Like I said I’m definitely no makeup guru, but I do love a bright lip and an occasional touch of eyeliner! So I was really excited to try all of these products.

I first tested out the blush, liner and lipstick while exploring in San Diego. I loved the Cargo blush‘s Bali rose pink shade against my olive skin tone. I usually only wear blush on special occasions or if I have extra time during my morning makeup session, but I really liked the natural look and lightness of this one. Another bonus: it’s waterproof! I don’t know if I will actually use this product that often, but it would be a nice addition to your collection if blush is part of your daily routine.

The Smashbox lipstick lasted me through lunch without reapplying, so I would definitely call that a success! I tend to get dry lips and often have a hard time finding matte lipstick that won’t make them flaky, but this one went on smooth even without pre-applying chapstick. Since the baby pink color is so bright, you don’t need to wear much eye makeup with it.

Now onto the Cynthia Rowley liner – I’ve never been big on eyeliner because I have more almond shaped eyelids which can easily cause smudging, but surprisingly I really did end up liking this liner. It glided on my lids smoothly and was easy to control the thickness which is perfect for me since I prefer a thiner line. I’ll definitely be wearing liner more often now!

This was my first time ever trying a lip pencil, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from my LAQA & Co. pencil. The best way I can describe it is a mix between a gloss and chapstick, which is great for my dry lips because it is hydrating but not sticky or shiny like a normal lipgloss. I really liked the Honeypot shade because it is more of a natural pink, especially compared to the Smashbox lipstick, that I could see myself wearing everyday (see how it looks on me here.)

I utilized my Living proof night cap after a long day of beach, sweat, pool and jacuzzi. After washing my hair I used two pumps of the formula starting from my roots to my ends. My favorite part had to be the amazing smell- it was like I just got back from the salon! When I woke up in the morning, my hair definitely felt softer but still was a little frizzy from sleeping with wet hair. The bottle says it lasts up until 5 washes but I noticed my hair felt pretty much back to normal after the 3rd wash.

Have you tried Birchbox yet? I’m still deciding if I should try it out for real or not! If you would like to test out any of these products yourself you can find them here:
